About Moz Rank Checker

The true value of a website's presence on the internet is largely determined by it's link profile and it's popularity. The popularity is based on the authority of a domain, which lies in the number of backlinks and the quality of the sites linking to that domain. A backlink in the eyes of the search engines is like an upvote, and the more a website has linking to it, the better is the value of that website.

Many SEO companies have introduced some metrics, similar to Google page rank system that measures how valuable a website or domain is. These metrics measures the backlink profiles of different websites and thus serves as a measure of a website authority on the internet.

Among the metrics that have been introduced to make an assessment of a domain or website are MozRank (MR), Moz Page Authority (PA), Moz Domain Authority (DA) Ahrefs Rank (AR), Alexa Rank, PageRank (PR) etc. Today, one of the most popular and reliable metrics to measure the authority of a domain, website or web page is MozRank. MozRank was created by Moz, an American SEO company dedicated to the development of SEO tools and resources.

There are other metrics like Moz Page Authority and Moz Domain Authority. Page Authority is based off data from the Mozscape web index and includes backlink counts, MozRank, MozTrust, and many other factors. Domain Authority represents Moz’s best prediction of how a website will perform in search engine rankings. Domain Authority and Page Authority combine other Moz metrics like MozTrust and MozRank with other factors into a value between 0 an 100, on an exponential scale.

Moz Rank along with Page Authority and Domain Authority, are some of the most used metrics by professional Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts, and serve as benchmark for optimizing websites for search engine ranking. We will be focusing on MozRank, but first let's understand what MozRank is.

What is Moz Rank and why is it Important?

Moz Rank is a metric system that search engine optimization experts and digital marketers use to check their website popularity and also how they measure against their competition. It analyzes and measures the number or quantity of backlinks pointing to a website. It is a metric developed as an alternative to Google’s page rank to determine a website’s backlink profile and strength. Moz, also uses another metric value called MozTrust (mT) to measure quality of the backlink profile.

Moz Rank is used as a metric by scaling a website backlinks popularity, strength, and quality on a logarithmic scale between 0 to 10. The more incoming backlinks a website has and the higher the quality they are, the higher the MozRank. The average website on the internet has a Moz Rank of about 3. To get a higher Moz Rank, you will have to build more backlinks from quality high ranking websites.

MozRank is important in many ways because it works as an indicator of link authority. Since the metric determines the authority of a website based on link profile, checking your MozRank helps you build more link profile. MozRank can also be used to compare your website with your competitors’ website and then you can get ideas for planning your SEO strategies.

Moz Rank with other metrics like Domain authority and Page authority is important when trying to get your site to rank against your competitors. This means that if your competitors all have Moz Rank scores that are better than your website, then you need to shoot for a close or better score.

The better your MOZRank, the better your website trust is with a Search Engine like Google. You can checkout your website Page Authority with the Page Authority Checker Tool.

How is Moz Rank Calculated?

MozRank is determined using Moz’s own algorithm, by evaluating multiple factors, including linking root domains and total number of backlinks, into a logarithmic scale between 0 to 10. This score can then be used when comparing one website with another. MozRank is not a Google ranking factor and has no effect whatesoever on the SERPs.

MozRank measures the quantity of links on a particular landing page. The pages linking to a web page contribute in the popularity because they can ‘vote’ by linking to the other web pages. So MozRank is page-specific, that's why each page on a website receives a different Moz Rank score. Just like every web page has its own backlinks, every page also has its own MozRank. The higher the Moz Rank of the linking web pages, the higher would be the Moz Rank of the webpage.

A score of 1 represents a web page with very few links and page hit whereas a score of 10 represents a web page that is at the peak of its popularity, scoring hundreds or thousands of backlinks and millions of page views per week.

The Moz metrics used to classify the importance of a web page or website are:

  • mozRank (mR)
  • mozTrust (mT)
  • Domain Authority (DA)
  • Page Authority (PA)

Even though we are focuing on MozRank, the Domain Authority and Page Authority is also important.

Moz Page Authority and Moz Domain Authority are calculated on a 100-point, logarithmic scale where it uses different algorithm to calculate Page Authority and Domain Authority. The higher the MozRank, DA or PA is, the better the chances of ranking for that page or domain. Checkout the Domain Authority Checker Tool to check your website's domain authority score.

Relevance of MOZ Rank to SEO

While search engines do not use MozRank to classify results, they do largely rely on the authority of their links. Google consider rich backlink profiles as a ranking factor, so If a web page has many links pointing to it, it sends a signal to Google that the web page is trustworthy. A link is considered like an upvote, so the more you have from many domains especially from high authority websites in the same industry, the better you chances of ranking in the SERPs. And link authority is one of the indicators that MozRank represents.

Therefore, if you get high Moz Ranks for your websites or landing pages, it’s likely that you’ll get good classifications in the main search engines. The better the backlink profile of a web page, the higher the Moz Rank of that web page.

Hence, it is a good practice to improve your Moz Rank website scores as they can benefit your website positively in Google search. Moz Rank works best by checking up your competitors Moz Rank and working towards beating their Moz Rank scores.
